Hi all,

I’ve got some great new pikes, crenicichla compressiceps, which are terrific fish. I was wondering about their predatory nature; i’ve read that they are more insectivourous than anything else, and should not harm other fish of reasonable size. Can anyone confirm or contradict this, before I make a big mistake in my well planted community tank.

thanks

I kept these for a while. They were not aggressive towards some killis I chucked in with them, I think in a well planted tank you could probably even breed guppies with them!

mine eat guppies – little ones anyway. They, like most fish, will eat anything that fits in their mouths. zee_________________

I think zee got it right. Its all about size. Most pikes will eat what they can fit inside their mouths!

I’ve fed mine small culls before, but unless they can swallow it in one go, they seem to ignore them. I’ve got several smaller fish living with mine that don’t really seem bothered (and have been there for months). Perhaps if I starved them they would try harder! zee_________________
