How to look afterTelmatherina ladigesi

Celebes rainbowfish

Ahl, 1936

(Other members of the genus Telmatherina)

ADULT SIZE: 7 cm

WATER CONDITIONS: Moderately hard and alkaline

TEMPERATURE RANGE: 25-28 C

FOOD: Feed Telmatherina ladigesi small live-foods and fine grade dried foods. Fry should be raised on newly hatched artemia.

DISTRIBUTION: This species comes from Indonesia

AQUARIUM CARE: The Celebes rainbow comes from slow moving streams, in the island of Sulawesi (previously Celebes), Indonesia; as such, this species requires good clean water. Some open space for swimming is essential, though a well planted background and some floating plants make for a natural environment, and keep the fish happy. The fish looks at its best in somewhat muted light.

A fine community species when kept with calmer species of a similar size.

BREEDING: Sexing this species is not hard; males have longer fins which they use to display to the females. An egg scatterer, and not too difficult to breed in a dedicated spawning tank. Fill the tank with spawning mops, moss or mables, and remove the adults when spawning is complete.
