ADULT SIZE: 30 cm

FOOD: Feed Polypterus senegalus predominantly live foods

DISTRIBUTION: This species comes from Chad, Gambia, Niger, Senegal, Sudan, Burkina faso

AQUARIUM CARE: This species is widespread in Africa, inhabiting lakes and other bodies of water across from Gambia on the far west coast, through central Africa, and to the Nile basin on the east.

In the aquarium the Senegal bichir is quite terratorial to its own kind, but will fit in well in a larger tank with large but peaceful inhabitants. It is carnivorous in the wild, eating insects, small fish and crustaceans, so relishes meaty foods such as beafheart and earthworms.
