I would like to set up a rainforest tank featuring tetras and a couple pairs of Apistos. The trouble is selecting suitable species. Will any apistos breed in neutral water in a well planted community. Will the fry get eaten by tetras, or do the parents protect them? I have no experience of these fish yet, but can’t wait. Someone please help!

Should be ok, provide caves, and raise temperature to 29-30

make sure you have a cave (upturned flower pot) for them to spawn in. And keep more females than males!

Thanks all. i bought 2 nice pairs of A. agassizi – and they are GREAT. I think they are looking at spawning. They are certainly hanging around (more so one particular female) the spawning cave. Can snails eat the egss? Does the female guard against snails? How many fry can I expect, when it finally happens? Thanks again!
