Oto, Dwarf sucker catfish, Midget suckermouth catfish

Steindachner, 1877

(Other members of the genus Otocinclus)

ADULT SIZE: 5 cm

WATER CONDITIONS: Not critical

TEMPERATURE RANGE: 20-26 C

FOOD: Feed Otocinclus affinis a predominantly vegetarian diet

DISTRIBUTION: This species comes from Brazil

AQUARIUM CARE: These very small catfish are an excellent addition to the aquarium. They are fairly hardy and will do a good job keeping the tank clear of unwanted algae. If there is no algae, some vegetable matter is greatfully received: cucumber, lettuce, blanched spinach etc.

Otos make good community fish, obviously avoiding too large or predatory species. Clean water is important, maintain water quality.

BREEDING: Substrate spawner, though rarely achieved in the aquarium
