WATER CONDITIONS: Moderately soft and acidic

TEMPERATURE RANGE: 23-28 C

FOOD: Feed Carnegiella strigata strigata small live-foods and fine grade dried foods

DISTRIBUTION: This species comes from Peru

AQUARIUM CARE: These small hatchetfish differ from those in the family Gasteropelecus by size (smaller) and lack of adipose fin. In general these delicate fish require live foods, being particularly fond of drosophila (fruit flies). In the wild they are known to jump out and catch insects. They spend their lives at the waters surface, and in aquaria may also jump out – keep tanks covered!

BREEDING: Breeding occurs in very soft acidic water which is rich in tannins. As a typical egg scatterer they should be removed after spawning, as they will eat eggs. marbles may be used to stop egg predation. Eggs hatch after around 30 hours
