My friend has a 4 foot piranha tank, but is worried that it is too small How big will they get in such a tank? He’s regretting getting them now, as he has no space to get a bigger one. Anyone else had this prob? What size tank is needed? I think he will take them back (if he can find a bag tough enough!)

cheers

Hi Panbaneisha Adult piranhas need space. No two ways about it. Usually 20gallons per fish MINIMUM I doubt your friend can offer that in a 4 foot tank.

Of course, one solution is to keep them, and take them back to the shop every two years or so, and swap them for more youngsters. Its a shame if you get attached to them as individuals, but kindest in the long run. Don’t expect public aquariums to take them, most are overrun with people too big mistakes!

Transport them in buckets – bags will be shredded in seconds!

good luck!
