Hi, I bought an ‘orange pike cichlid’ today, and hes a great little fish. Question is will he stay little, or will he grow up to eat all his tankmates? Hes only 4 inches now, can anyone tell me a maximum size for such a fish? TIA

Hi Trevor, they are such a lovely fish, but you were right to ask about pros and cons. Pros: they will recognize you; feed from the hand, act like a ‘proper’ pet Cons: they’ll eat all your plants! Also the lovely striped yound in pet shops loose those nice stripes! I have kept severums for […]

Hi Terry, yes you can. To guarantee a pair though, its best to get a small group, let a pair form, and then remove the rest Make sure there are lots of hiding places though, just in case!_________________55 Gallon Tank _______________ (6) 4.5″ Labidochromis (2) 5.5″ Aulonocara jacobfreidbergi (6) 4″ Melanochromis johanni (2) 5″ Synodontis […]

Corys (most anyway) are pretty easy to breed really. I have had continual sucess simply by doing a large water change, and then topping up with cooler water. Of course, they do like to be well fed first, but if they are, the water change does the rest. As the previous poster stated this simulates […]

Aquarium Fish :: View topic – Are they community fish?
Hi Naz, Tiger barbs (Capoeta tetrazona) are definate fin nippers. Especially on gouramis. They treat all fish as other tiger barbs, and when they do not act ‘barbishly’ enough they will be bullied. Its a pecking order thing, Many fish nip fins, and the ‘king’ of the tank is the one with the best tail. […]
